Can You Use a ChatGPT Plan in Notion or Devin? Limits, Fees, and Access

Eligible Plus and Pro users can authorize participating apps to draw on existing ChatGPT Work and Codex usage. That is not free API-key credit, and it does not erase the partner app’s own subscription or service charges. This guide explains eligibility, per-app caps, credits, privacy, Notion’s current conditions, and the checks to make before connecting Devin.

Can You Use a ChatGPT Plan in Notion or Devin? Limits, Fees, and Access

Yes, but not in the sense that every third-party app becomes free after you click a ChatGPT login button. As of October 1, 2026, eligible ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers can separately authorize certain participating apps to use their existing ChatGPT Work and Codex allowance for eligible AI requests. OpenAI’s current commercial-tool list includes both Notion and Cognition’s Devin.

Three conditions must line up: the app must support plan usage rather than sign-in only, your ChatGPT account must be eligible, and your account or plan inside the partner app must meet that app’s rules. This flow does not hand the app an OpenAI API key, and it does not automatically remove the app’s subscription, infrastructure, service, or premium-feature charges.

Separate the three things that look similar

  1. Sign in with ChatGPT uses your ChatGPT account as an identity. A participating app may offer this even when plan usage is unavailable.
  2. Use your ChatGPT plan is a separate permission. Eligible Plus and Pro users can let qualifying requests count against their plan.
  3. Use an OpenAI API key is a different product and billing route. API Platform usage is billed separately from a ChatGPT subscription.

A “Continue with ChatGPT” button therefore proves only that a sign-in flow exists. Look for a separate “Use your ChatGPT plan” permission and confirm that the app is currently listed for plan usage, not merely identity sign-in.

Run four eligibility checks before connecting

CheckWhat to confirmWhat happens if it fails
ChatGPT accountYou are using the intended Plus or Pro account, not another free account or workspaceSign-in may work, but plan usage will not
App supportThe app currently supports plan usage, not sign-in onlyThe app may use its own billing or provide no option
App-side requirementsYour app plan, membership, region, and feature meet the app’s rulesThe connection option may be hidden even with Plus or Pro
Explicit consentYou separately approved use of your ChatGPT planThe accounts may be linked while AI requests remain outside your plan

OpenAI also says participating apps may expose plan usage only on certain app plans. Being named as a partner does not mean every free and paid account in that product qualifies.

How usage is deducted: an app cap is not a bonus allowance

Eligible requests draw from the ChatGPT Work and Codex usage already included in your plan. Connecting Notion, Devin, or another app does not create a new pool for each product and does not increase your overall limits.

Open Settings → Usage → App limits → Manage limits in ChatGPT to set a weekly cap for each app. The cap controls the percentage of your overall weekly usage that the app may consume. Two different limits can therefore stop a task:

  • the app reaches its own cap while you still have plan usage left; or
  • your overall plan usage runs out before the app reaches its cap.

Signing in again, retrying the same task, or resubmitting it does not restore usage. Check the Usage page for the remaining allowance, the saved app cap, and the reset time.

A safer first-week policy

Start with a low cap, run several representative tasks, and inspect how quickly the app consumes usage. Raise the cap only after you understand task quality, consumption, and app-side charges. Giving every automation the maximum share on day one can let several agents draw from the same overall pool at once.

Credits are optional, not a second free pool

Some accounts can allow participating apps to use available ChatGPT credits after included plan usage runs out. Four boundaries matter:

  • the option is off by default and may not be available to every account;
  • an app’s limit must be set to 100% before that app can use credits after included usage ends;
  • setting the app to 100% does not itself enable credit use; and
  • allowing apps to use credits is separate from automatically purchasing more credits.

Review automatic purchase settings before opting in. If automatic purchases are enabled, a continuing agent task can create charges. Keep both credit use and auto-purchase off if you need a hard spending boundary.

Do not mix up the three billing routes

RouteRequired membershipMinimum top-upIncluded allowanceOverage or per-use costPartner-app cost
ChatGPT plan inside a participating appChatGPT Plus or Pro; the app may also require a specific planNo separate API balance is required for plan usage; credits are optionalUses existing ChatGPT Work/Codex allowance; no new poolContinues with ChatGPT credits only when you explicitly allow it and credits are availableThe app may still charge for subscriptions, infrastructure, services, or premium features
OpenAI API key inside an appAPI Platform billing must be configured; a ChatGPT subscription does not cover itPrepaid API setup has a $5 minimum initial purchase; other billing follows the account setupNo Plus/Pro allowance carries overCharged at current API model, tool, and storage ratesThe app may still charge separately
The app’s own AI allowanceDetermined by the app’s planDetermined by the appUses the app plan’s included quotaDetermined by the app’s overage, credit, or usage termsAll app charges remain governed by the app

This table is not a claim that one route is always cheaper. The real total depends on the task, model, app plan, and volume. Its purpose is to show which billing layer pays for what.

Notion: the specific conditions currently documented

Notion’s official help page sets a narrower boundary than “Notion supports ChatGPT sign-in”:

  • the Notion workspace must be on Business or Enterprise;
  • the person connecting must be a workspace member, not a guest;
  • the ChatGPT account must be Plus or Pro;
  • the feature works with Notion Agent, not Custom Agents.

After connection, selecting a specific GPT model uses the ChatGPT plan for that session. Selecting Auto or a non-GPT model uses the Notion workspace’s credits instead. The model picker shows which plan will fund the request before it is sent.

So a Plus or Pro subscription does not automatically turn a personal or otherwise ineligible Notion workspace into free Notion Agent access. Notion’s workspace-plan and membership requirements still apply.

Devin: support is confirmed, but app-side terms still decide eligibility

OpenAI currently lists Devin by Cognition among commercial tools that can use a ChatGPT plan, so it is not merely a sign-in-only partner. The general OpenAI boundary still applies, however: commercial tools may restrict the option to particular app plans and may keep separate charges.

Before connecting, check three things in your current Devin account or billing screen: whether your plan exposes the connection, which models or execution modes draw from ChatGPT, and what happens after the ChatGPT limit is reached. Without those account-level details, do not assume that every Devin user qualifies or that a ChatGPT subscription replaces a Devin subscription.

Connect correctly and set a limit

  1. Start in the partner app and select Continue with ChatGPT or Sign in with ChatGPT.
  2. Verify that you are signing in to the ChatGPT account whose allowance you intend to use.
  3. Review the basic account data requested and the app’s privacy policy.
  4. In the separate consent step, decide whether the app may use your ChatGPT plan.
  5. Return to ChatGPT Settings → Usage, set an app cap, and save it.
  6. Leave credit use and automatic purchases off until you have measured several realistic tasks.
  7. Check the app’s model picker or usage view to confirm that the request is actually funded by ChatGPT rather than the app’s own credits.

What you share—and what you do not

OpenAI says sign-in shares basic account information such as your name, email address, and profile picture. Plan authorization lets eligible requests count against your allowance.

That permission alone does not give the app access to your ChatGPT conversations, memories, or OpenAI API key. The app may request separate access to files, repositories, workspaces, or other data, so review every additional permission and the provider’s privacy terms.

Signing out inside the partner app is not the same as revoking the ChatGPT connection. To remove it, go to Settings → Security and login → Login connections → Sign in with ChatGPT, select the app, and choose Disconnect. Deleting data that the app already received is a separate process governed by the app’s controls.

Troubleshooting the most common failures

You can sign in, but plan usage is unavailable

Check the active ChatGPT account, Plus/Pro status, the separate plan-use consent, the partner app’s required plan, and the saved app cap. Buying credits or signing in again does not make an ineligible account eligible.

ChatGPT still has usage, but the app says it is limited

The app may have reached the lower weekly cap you set. The cap is a maximum share, not a readout of remaining usage. Review the app cap, consumed percentage, and reset time in Settings → Usage.

You have credits, but the app still stops

Confirm that credit use is available for the account, separately enabled, the app limit is 100%, and a usable credit balance remains. Missing any one condition can prevent continuation.

Usage is higher than expected

Different apps and tasks can consume allowance at different rates. Keep the task time, app job ID, prompt, result, and final error. Ask the app provider what work ran; if the ChatGPT usage record still appears wrong, give the same evidence to OpenAI Support.

The practical decision rule

This feature is useful when you already pay for Plus or Pro, regularly use OpenAI models in a supported app, understand the app’s own charges, and want to avoid sharing an API key. Per-app caps also give you a practical control surface in ChatGPT.

It is not a universal API bundle and not one subscription for every AI tool. Before relying on it, check OpenAI’s current plan-usage guidance, the partner’s current plan and billing page, and the saved app-limit and credit settings in ChatGPT.
